So I was just surfing by the Rolling Stone website and came across their ranking of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The original issue came out in 2004, and I remember reading it then but it got me thinking again.
How do you even go about determining a list like this? I have enough trouble trying to figure out my own personal favourite song, nevermind the best one ever. I think my own personal favourite of all-time would be The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony. Everything about it - the lyrics, the instrumentation, Richard Ashcroft’s voice, the video - is perfection to me. On this list, it ranks #382 - and I think it should have been way higher!
As for Rolling Stone’s Top 10, I’m disappointed that The Beatles first come in at #8 - I think A Day In The Life should have EASILY been ranked in the Top 3, and certainly ahead of The Rolling Stones’ Satisfaction.
But that’s just me. What do YOU think?

Agreed, Kate. Like, if you ask me, Hey Jude and Purple Haze should DEFINITELY be higher ranked. They’re so easily identifiable.
Has anyone seen the sign beside a construction zone near the Eaton Centre that says “‘Scuse us while we scrape the sky.”?
I can’t even name my top 100 albums or artists…LOL. Let alone songs. I have at least 500 songs on my iPod that are rated 5 stars!!
It all comes down to personal preference really, but yeah the beatles should be in the top 3 for sure

These lists are always agruable because music is such a personal thing. I can’t even try to graps my top 10.
