Let the 75th Hunger Games begin! Okay, maybe not yet. But with today’s outstanding casting news coming out of District 12 Hollywood, we are thiiiis much closer to the film adaptation of Catching Fire. After much speculation, it’s been announced that Academy Award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman will play the diabolical head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. Joining the casting news, Jenna Malone will play returning tribute Johanna Mason.
Hoffman is known for being a chameleon with his roles, best recognized for films like Almost Famous, Capote, Moneyball and The Ides of March. Malone has made a name for herself both in theatre and film, including Donnie Darko, Saved!, Pride and Prejudice and Cold Mountain.
Fans are still eagerly taking bets on who will be cast to play the beautiful and troubled Finnick Odair, with Garrett Hedlund, Armie Hammer and Taylor Kitsch creating a lot of buzz with regards to the role. If the first film and today’s announcement are any indication, we know that the casting directors behind the trilogy will pick the perfect actor to portray Odair.
While shooting for Catching Fire has yet to begin, a release date of November 22, 2013 has been made public.
