By now, we all know the story: Jimmy Fallon and Jennifer Lawrence drunkenly attempted to dance with Jennifer Lopez at the MET Gala, but Fallon bailed at the last second leaving Lawrence to embarrass herself when Lopez turned her down. One of the best stories we’ve ever heard, really. But even though J.Law and Fallon have retold their respective sides of the story — Fallon claims to have bailed because he eyed Lopez’s manager shaking his head at them — and Lopez has also responded in a separate interview with her perspective on the matter, the story has yet to come to a conclusive end yet.
On last night’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the talk show host sat down with Lopez herself to discuss the events that evening. Lopez again defends herself, claiming that she didn’t mean to reject Lawrence, but instead was simply turning down the suggestion to join the rowdy crowd up front as Kanye performed. Fallon is still battling guilt for bailing on Lawrence, as he should.
But there was a happy ending to this tumultuous and hilarious saga. Fallon ended his interview by finally doing what he had bailed on doing the first time: asking Jennifer Lopez to dance with him. Alas, Lawrence wasn’t present to complete this tale, but surely the two stars will meet again and hopefully they will have that dance.
