The Killers @ Massey Hall

Whether you are human or a dancer you cannot deny the fact that The Killers put on a great show last night. From the opening sounds of their latest single Human I knew that this show was going to be great. Brandon, Dave, Mark and Ronnie were all on their ‘A’ game and it showed through their performance, energy and their attitude. They were there to have fun and rock out. Brandon showed that he has grown as a performer with a strong and confident performance last night.

The energy and vibe from the crowd seemed to give confidence to Brandon and the Killers to perform hit after hit with the sold out Massey Hall singing along to nearly all the songs. The stage was setup with four palm trees, a zebra print back drop and Christmas lights draped over the speakers to give it a very cool and relaxed feel.

With their new album ‘Day & Age’ set to be released next week, this was a prime opportunity to hear new tracks live. The guys played a bunch of new songs that include Losing Touch, Spaceman, Joy Ride and Neon Tiger. The Killers already have a bunch of anthem sing-a-longs and some of the new songs played have the potential to be added to the list of area anthem sing-a-longs with catchy courses and versus.

After stellar performances of For Reasons Unknown, Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, Somebody Told Me and Sweet Talk, Brandon hopped on the piano and performed toned down versions of Smile Like You Mean It and Sam’s Town. The toned down versions of those songs fell into place nicely especially after they played one of their favourite songs to perform Sweet Talk, which Brandon later told the crowd that it is “a beast to sing”.

With the energy already flowing through everyone’s body, they roared into Read My Mind which sent the overall energy to an all time high. Following Read My Mind they played Bones, Shadowplay and ended their set with the super anthem sing-a-long of Mr.Brightside. Everyone from the front of the stage to a kid in the balcony was singing along without missing a single word.

They ducked out for a quick break then reemerging to a crowd standing, clapping and screaming for more. Their encore consisted of a new song called Neon Tiger and anthem classics All These Things I’ve Done and When You Were Young. This mini tour was a warm up for their upcoming tour in support of their third studio album ‘Day & Age’ and if this was any indication of what we are in for, their January 23rd date at the ACC will be filled with good times and arena sing-a-longs.

This was my third time seeing them and it was the best that I’ve seen them perform. I am looking forward to hearing their new album and to seeing them in January.
