The L.A. Complex Ep. 2: Do Something

January 18th, 2012

Two strip clubs, two unwanted kiss attempts, a shocking ending and some lip balm. Find out what happened on Episode 2 of The L.A. Complex!

Watch episodes one and two here!

Abby is scared to get up on stage and Alicia tells her not to worry about what her boyfriend will think. Abby admits she broke up with him that morning, so Alicia suggests she get a client to take her into the champagne room. This is a lot to take in.

Abby starts giving a lap dance to a guy who can cast her in a movie. Everything is great until he grabs her boob. Abby freaks out, but doesn’t realize that touching is allowed. Whoops!

Abby gets a call from her agent to audition for the role of a hooker. Talking about being dressed for the part! It’s her lucky day? Abby gets to the lot for the audition and leaves Connor a message to see if he wants to hang out. While at the audition, Abby runs into Raquel. They’re both going out for the same role. Roh row.

Connor gets Nick a job as a stand-in on his show. Nick is excited, but Connor is starting to really feel the pressure at his new job. Even though he’s the star, Connor still worries constantly about whether or not he’ll get fired. He asks his co-star to run lines in his trailer, but she thinks it’s code for ‘let’s take these scrubs off’. It’s not. Awkward.

While working as a stand-in, Nick decides to use his time wisely and get female advice from the stand-in he’s working with. Annoyed, she tells him that he talks too much. Thanks? She also tells him that he over thinks and needs to trust his gut.

Dynasty has finally agreed to let Tariq produce for an artist. He’s assigned him to Kaldrick King, one of the toughest rappers in the game. Well, this shouldn’t be terrifying. Tariq gets to Kaldrick’s house ready to work, but Kaldrick has a test to give Tariq before they hit the studio.

This should go terribly.

Rule number one – no talking about music. Kaldrick wants Tariq to show him somewhere important. Tariq takes Kal to a record store and the rapper freaks out, telling Tariq again that he doesn’t want to talk about music. Because why would a rapper want to talk to a producer about music?

Tariq’s next stop is The Lux. Kaldrick, not surprisingly, freaks out. Tariq has had enough. He doesn’t have anywhere special in LA because all he does is work and sleep. This seems to resonate with Kal, who suggests they get lunch. I hope ‘lunch’ isn’t code for ‘scarring Tariq some more’.

Alicia finally gets a call back for an audition, but in order to make it in time she has to leave her shift at the strip club. Her boss won’t let her and a demanding customer isn’t helping.

His name is Rick and he’s a child actor. But once they get in the champagne room, Alicia finds out that Rick was really covering for her. He promises to stay out of sight and wait until she gets back from her audition. Aw, nice guys do exist…in strip clubs.

Alicia races back and tells Rick that she got cut from the audition. The two talk and Alicia finds out that Rick is not only a nice guy, but a struggling actor. He was once famous and isn’t anymore, so he knows how difficult it is in the entertainment business. Rick offers to buy Alicia a drink and invites her to an event that evening. Her first red carpet!

And her first bag of free stuff! Alicia’s at the event with Rick and he’s not only getting her on the red carpet, but introducing her to people as well. I like this guy. I think Alicia does too. Rick drives Alicia home and they kiss good night. Could this be the start of a new relationship? Is it bad luck to meet your new boyfriend at a strip club? Not sure how these things work.

Tariq and Kaldrick are finally having a real conversation during lunch, but as we have come to learn with Kaldrick, his good moods last about two seconds.

The two are bonding over their similar childhoods, when a fan stops to take a picture of Kal.

So what does Kaldrick do to the guy talking about how much he loves the rapper’s music? Beats the hell
outta him.

Seems reasonable. NOT! This man is crazy, Tariq! Stay away! Drake wouldn’t pull this ish!

Kal takes Tariq to a strip club and is disappointed that Tariq isn’t making it rain. Kal explains that he beat his fan up because people want the ‘gangster’ Kal. Tariq calls Kal out, saying he’s not making albums anymore because he doesn’t have anything to say. Kal doesn’t think his fans want change, but Tariq encourages him to be honest instead. Kal doesn’t punch him (thankfully) but instead gives him the job of his producer. I’m kinda nervous. And by kinda I mean super nervous.

Raquel looks confident coming out of the audition, but when she writes her name on the login book and sees hundreds of other names, her confidence is gone. She and Abby talk after the audition and it looks like Raquel is actually going to sympathize with the new actress. That is until Abby asks Raquel where Connor’s set is located. Raquel tells her that it’s lame to drop by someone’s set unannounced. But after deterring Abby from looking for Connor, she searches for him.

Abby may have thrown up all over her last audition and gotten fired from her illegal job, but at least she has a place to live! Or did. The landlord kicks Abby out and once again, it’s nice guy Nick to the rescue. Abby moves in with Nick, his teddy bear, his copy of The Notebook and his one bed. Minus the teddy bear this is a pretty solid plan for wooing Abby.

Connor considers hanging out with Raquel until he glances down at his phone and sees a missed call from Abby. He tries calling Abby, but she’s too busy with Nick and his teddy bear to pick up her phone.

Raquel is frustrated that she still hasn’t heard about the part and is on the phone with her agent. That is until she looks across the Lux and sees Abby celebrating with Nick that she got the part.

Abby is ecstatic and Nick is so happy for her that he takes the stand-ins advice and seizes the moment by trying to kiss Abby. She stops him and says that she just wants to be friends. Nick works his acting skills and pretends that he’s fine with that. Maybe he should try acting instead of comedy? He’s a natural.

The guys are back at Kal’s house and finally start listening to music. And just when we think Kaldrick can’t shock us any more…

Raise your hand if you did not see that coming! Everyone’s hands up? That’s what I thought.
