Beth and Simon arrive in LA ready to take on the world. And ingest a lot of smog. Their first stop is The Lux to look for a room without wheels and Eddie agrees to give them a run down room for a cheap if Beth can use her how-to skills to spiffy the joint up.
The next stop for Beth and Simon is at the office of the director who gave them his card. He’s definitely not thrilled to see them there and finally admits to Beth that he only gave out his card because he was hitting on her.
The director hands Beth a random flyer for an agent and wishes them luck. I think they’ll need more than luck to make it in LA. Beth and Simon make their way to the agent’s office and she’s willing to sign Simon, but only if Beth can come up with $1,200 for headshots and a portfolio. So far, LA sucks.
Back at The Lux, Beth thinks that Simon is asleep and calls her dad and leaves him a message, asking him to send money. Now we know that they have parents, but where are they?
Later that night, Beth is in a panic when she thinks that she’s lost Simon. He’s only a few feet away making friends at The Lux with Cam and Kevin, who agree to do Simon’s headshots for free. Well, I think Cam would rather trade the head shots for a date with Beth.
Abby’s agent Ron forgot to tell her that she got the part for Saying Grace, making her late for her first day. I guess Ron hasn’t changed since Season 1.
After spilling coffee all over herself while running out of The Lux, Abby decides that showing up for her first day on an ultra-religious TV show in a bra is better than showing up in a shirt with coffee stains. I disagree. Abby meets with Donald, the producer, star and all-around bible thumping leader of Saying Grace and is give contract to sign to ensure that Abby’s behaviour off-set matches her behaviour on-set.
Abby is ready for her first scene, but Donald doesn’t think the viewers of Saying Grace are ready for Abby’s risqué outfit. She’s forced to cover up, but gets some support from her new co-star Brandon. Things are going well on set, until Abby walks in on Brandon and Laura, the two stars of Saying Grace, having sex in their dressing room.
Laura finds Abby later that day and threatens to murder Abby if she tells anyone about what she saw. That doesn’t seem very Christian. Abby promises to take the secret to her grave, which may come sooner than later with Laura’s threats. Abby also agrees to have dinner with Laura and Brandon, too scared to decline their offer.
Out for dinner at an arcade (really?), Laura and Brandon tell Abby that they’ve been together for three years and don’t want anyone to know they’re dating because Donald is a psycho path. This could get really weird since it seems like Brandon has been flirting with Abby since her first audition.
At work on the first day, Nick tries to bury the hatchet with Sabrina and call a truce. She, on the other hand, continues to be the worst ever.
The day is almost done and Nick has contributed nothing to the table write. Sabrina pulls him aside and tells Nick that he needs to speak up or he’ll be fired. When Paul walks in, Nick finally makes a suggestion and Paul doesn’t hate it, although he still hates Nick. I’d take it as a win.
At the end of the day, Nick tells Sabrina that they make a good team and she kisses him. Nick stops her and says that he’s living with Abby.
They’re interrupted by Scott who tells them that there isn’t enough money to keep both of them and now they have to fight for the job. The truce is definitely off.
After drunkily asking Raquel to be his girlfriend the night before, Connor wakes up sober, still wanting to be with Raquel. Swoon! A sober and in lurve Connor is off to his meeting with Jennifer Bell, an A-list actress that Connor hopes is considering him for her next film. But when Connor gets to his meeting with Jennifer, she wants to talk about anything but a film.
When their talking is done, Jennifer kisses Connor and invites him back to her office. But that’s where the foreplay finishes. Was she auditioning his lips? Is that a real thing?
Connor is met by Jennifer’s team of lawyers, who ask him to sign a non-disclosure agreement before Jennifer will tell Connor her proposition. Connor signs and learns that Jennifer’s deal isn’t for a movie role, but the role of her real-life boyfriend. Jennifer isn’t popular with the younger viewers anymore and with Connor’s show about to take off, he’s her ticket back to relevancy. Disgusted, Connor leaves the room, refusing her offer.
After months and months of small roles, Raquel’s agent suggests that she take an acting class to find out how she can change the way she’s being perceived. Raquel is insulted, but agrees to give the class a chance.
When it’s Raquel’s turn to learn from the rest of the students what roles they think she can play based on her looks, the adjectives are negative and view Raquel as mean and guarded.
Raquel decides it’s time to change the way people see her and shows up at her audition with blond hair and a bright summer dress. But her ear to ear smile isn’t enough to get her the part she wanted.
Back at The Lux that night, Connor tells Raquel about the offer from Jennifer Bell. Having had another terrible day in showbiz, Raquel tells Connor to take the role, which she sees as an opportunity. This isn’t going to pan out well for their relationship.
Kaldrick is in the hospital after his suicide attempt and when it’s time for his psych evaluation, Kalridck is honest and tells the doctor that he still has thoughts of suicide and will attempt to kill himself again if released. Kaldrick is at group therapy in the hospital and makes it a whole three seconds before he almost kills one of the other patients. Maybe he’s not ready for a group setting yet.
Thankfully, the group therapy ends and Kaldrick is in a one on one session with the doctor. But Kal still refuses to say what drove him to kill himself.
The single that Kal and Tariq wrote together has been leaked and is a huge hit. Kal’s manager and friend Hook shows up at the hospital to sneak Kaldrick out, and even with his protests, Kal agrees to go. But not before he stands in front of an almost comatose patient and finally says out loud that he’s gay.
