The L.A. Complex Ep. 5: Taking The Day

Beth gives herself a fun day, Nick and Sabrina find a common ground, Kaldrick makes a choice that loses him someone from his past, Connor and Raquel reach their boiling points and Abby tries to make the new arrangement with her co-stars work. Nick and Scott show up to work with monster hangovers and begin drinking immediately. Sabrina sees that they’ve bonded and begins to panic over her position in the writer’s room.

Nick is spending his time at the brothel getting advice from one of the sex workers, who points out that Nick really likes Sabrina, urging him to get back to the office and sweep Sabrina off her feet.

Nick takes the woman’s advice and heads back to work armed with take out food and ideas for the two to write about. They get to work and come up with great material, finally back to getting along. Nick finally takes charge and pulls Sabrina close to him, even though they both agree to remain enemies while at work. Swoon?

Simon’s latest audition consists of him playing in a room full of science toys for six hours. I wanna be an actor.

Beth is in the parent’s room waiting for Simon and meets another parent named Jack. He invites Beth out for lunch and she hesitantly accepts.

Beth’s new friend Jack takes her out for lunch and he quickly begins complaining about his marriage. Eek. This isn’t good. Beth tells Jack about her mother dying and her father leaving her and Simon living in their car while he went off to look for work. Jack suggests they do something fun for Beth.

And then they check out the hotel next door.

And the bed. And the floor.

Back at the science audition, Beth gets a call from a casting director and learns that Simon got the part he auditioned for the day before. Maybe their luck will finally turn around.

Abby tells Eddie about her secret threesome, but it becomes very un-secret when Abby says that the other two parties are her co-workers. It takes Eddie and IMDB about two seconds to figure out the other people are Laura and Brandon. I feel like this is going to backfire on her very, very soon.

Abby finds Brandon in his dressing room at work and tells him that she really likes him and isn’t interested in threesomes, just twosomes, Their talk is interrupted by Laura walking in and inviting Abby for another threesome and she accepts in an effort to stay close to Brandon.

Later that day, Laura pulls Abby aside at work and tells her that she felt something special with Abby the night before. Abby pretends that she felt it as well and keeps her feelings for Brandon a secret.

Abby is back in Laura’s sheets and her attempts to get closer to Brandon aren’t working.

When they get a second alone, Brandon tells Abby that she needs to give him time to figure things out. Work should be super fun if Brandon breaks up with Laura for Abby.

After her head busted through her car window while driving drunk, Raquel gets busted for a DUI. She’s forced to go through the humiliating booking process and then has the added humiliation of trying to find someone to bail her out. But who will she call? Connor? Abby? Cam and Kevin?

Connor wakes up in bed with Jennifer and gets a call from Raquel, asking Connor to post bail for her. Jennifer sees that Connor is upset and won’t let him drive, instead offering to drive with him. Connor and Jennifer pick Raquel up from jail and Raquel lays into both of them. Jennifer stops Raquel and makes her apologize for speaking so meanly to Connor. Maybe she should have just stayed in jail.

Back at Jennifer’s house, Connor admits that he and Raquel were more than just friends, but they’re done now. Raquel begins sending Connor text messages about Jennifer throwing him away and he reverts back to his self harming with hot water.

Jennifer finds Connor hurting himself and stops him, quickly apply cold water and a hug.

On her way to set, Raquel gets a call from her agent Naveed and learns that she’s been fired from the movie she didn’t want to do in the first place. But that’s not all. The production company is coming after Raquel for the money she lost them in shooting time for a total of $120,000. Wow, didn’t think her day could get worse and then it really, really did.

Later that night, Naveed pays Raquel a visit at The Lux. She’s been offered a spot on Celebrity Half Way House and it pays $150,000, enough to cover her lawsuit. Raquel throws him out, but after spending the night drinking and not getting any calls from Connor, decides to take the offer.

Kaldrick comes home with Walter and gets an icy greeting from Rook, who knows why kind of father Walter has been to Kaldrick. The party at Kaldrick’s house is in full swing and Walter is worried that he won’t be able to stay clean if she’s surrounded by drugs and alcohol.

Dynasty finds Kaldrick at his house and wants to know why Kaldrick is blowing off his studio time. Dynasty asks if his absence has something to do with Tariq and Kaldrick grabs his producer, telling him to stay quiet. Kaldrick tells Rook to get everyone out of his house and tells him that the partying isn’t working for him. He needs to make a change. I can think of a few.

Kaldrick and Walter are trying to have a nice dinner, but Rook won’t let Walter forget what a terrible, abusive father Walter was to Kaldrick. Rook tells Kaldrick to choose between the two men and Kaldrick says that his father is staying.

Seeing that his son is lost, Walter takes Kaldrick back to the mission. Kaldrick tells his father that he has a lot of secrets and looks like he’s *this* close to admitting that he’s gay, but stops himself.

I almost thought Walter was going to guess Kaldrick’s secret. I was wrong. Walter introduces Kaldrick, who we learn is actually named Sean, to Donna, a woman that works at the mission and would make ‘a good wife’ for Kaldrick. I’m gonna go with a ‘no’ on that idea.
