In case you’re not a regular visitor at Cute Overload then you probably don’t know about the Internet’s newest (and greatest obsession), aka Sera the lion and her four little cubs at a zoo called Kristiansand Dyrepark (”Kristiansand Zoo”) in Norway. The cubs were born on May 31, making them just over two weeks old, and they’re (obvs) the first lions ever to be born in Norway. And the cutest.
The cubs were just named on Saturday: their names are Nala, Lea, Kiara and Akira. Those all sound like female names to me, but who knows?
I’m not exaggerating when I say that the cub cam is in a background tab on my browser at all times. The cubs are usually doing the same thing over and over (that is, sleeping, waking Sera up so that they can feed, or just looking achingly adorable), but it’s so fascinating. Sera does NOT like it when humans come into the picture to occasionally weigh or check on the cubs. She spends the next few hours sniffing the air with her mouth open, clearly upset by the presence of the human scent.
Like most felines, she loves grooming her cubs, but because her tongue is so ENORMOUS, she practically knocks them out cold with each lick. And sometimes she puts an entire cub’s HEAD in her maw, just for fun.

Now that the cubs have finally opened their eyes (I think it must have been on Wednesday of last week?) they’re getting more active. And they’ve slowly started to groom each other. And you know what that means: SOON THEY WILL BE PLAYING!!
Yesterday the lion cub cam went down unexpectedly, and didn’t come back up. Devastation ensued. Frantic IMs and emails were exchanged: WHERE ARE THE CUBS? We demand updates. We were so worried. I hunted through the site to find a way to contact the cam hosting site’s webmaster and find out what happened.
Almost certainly they’d received their first bandwidth bill, promptly burst a major artery at the sight of it and were forced to take down the cam. I emailed to ask them to please put it back up - I can’t go on not knowing what’s new with the cubs! I’d even pay a subscription fee! I got an email response a few hours later saying that there’d been a technical glitch at the zoo and that the cam was back up, and would remain free (although you’ll notice now that there are ads, which is fine by me if it means I can continue to watch them!). See? DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!

I love the cubs! They melt away the stresses of the day.
