February 1st, 2010

So the early 2010 video game season opened up with a bang. All this gaming is seriously messing up my sleep and my relationship with the lady friend. Nonetheless, I must continue to game.

Here is quick rundown of videogames that were impressive in January.

Mass Effect 2 (see above)
The action role-playing game by BioWare surpasses the original game with tighter controls, an even better story, and visuals. One added feature is that if you have played Mass Effect 1 and still have your saved games you can import your character save, hold on to its appearance and history. Some of the decisions made in the first game will carry over in ME2 as well adding more value to the game. I strongly urge anyone with an Xbox 360 or PC to pick this game up whether or not you played the first Mass Effect.

MAG

I’m in the middle of playing MAG right now and the game has me hooked. MAG: Massive Action Game is a PS3 exclusive shooter that boasts up to 256-players. The game manages everyone by dividing players up into squads, platoons and companies. Eight players make up a squad; four squads form a platoon and four platoons form a company. It’s time to switch things up for a bit, put down the Modern Warfare and pick up MAG.

Bayonetta

Bayonetta was one the most anticipated games last year and I’m thrilled that I finally got to play and beat it. The action in this game is over the top, the colours are bright, the controls are easy to get into, and Bayonetta is now one of the hottest and coolest characters in videogame history. Only issue is that I couldn’t wrap my head around the story, good luck trying to figure it out.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is one of the few games to come out for the Wii that has fans wishing it was on the PS3 or Xbox 360. This game is a dream bout between Capcom characters like Ryu and Mega Man versus characters like Ken The Eagle and Tekkaman from Japanese animation house Tatsunoko. If you’re looking for accessible and fun fighter for the Wii, this is it.
