I have been in love with The Most Serene Republic ever since I first heard their album “… And The Ever Expanding Universe” back in the beginning of the summer. Before that I was really in like with them and too scared to tell them my true feelings. After last night’s show, I think I’m going to purpose.
Thursday night, many gathered into the cozy yet cool MOD Club and waited for the Milton mostly seven (occasionally more) piece band to hit the stage. Grand Archives had warmed us, and now we were all fired up and ready to go. Lights dimmed and some classical epic strings began to blast over the speakers. Out walked the band, each finding their own nook of the stage, and there the show began.
The show was a mix of songs old and new. From the more recent Heavens To Purgatory to the classic Content Was Always My Favorite Colour. From The Men Who Live Upstairs to Bubble Reputation.
Oh and speaking of bubbles? There were bubbles. Only for a few seconds but still! Adrian requested fog but instead we were surprised by a shower of bubbles floating above us. You should try have a bubble dance party. It was pretty great. In fact, the whole show pretty fantastic.
Maybe it’s their big orchestral indie rock pop sound. Maybe it’s the way that ginger Adrian Jewett dances around, shuffling his feet and wiggling his body, as he expressively sings out from his heart. Or the way he moves that trombone. Perhaps it’s Simon Lukasewich’s quick bass work, or adorable Emma Ditchburn’s voice that’s as sweet as honey. I could go on, but it might take a while.
The Most Serene Republic are currently touring Canada! Go have some fun and check them out!
