If you’re a frequent reader of Perezhilton.com, then you’ve probably heard of Leona Lewis – and if you haven’t, consider this your introduction.

Leona’s a 22-year old English singer-songwriter and 2006 winner of The X-Factor, which is basically another American Idol-type show in Britain (and also features Simon Cowell as one of its judges). Perez has been singing her praises for a LONG time now, claiming she’s one of the best singers he’s ever heard…and throughout her run on The X-Factor she was compared to such legendary divas as Mariah, Whitney, Celine and Christina. That in itself is pretty impressive, but Simon went so far as to say that she was “the best contestant I have ever had across any of these shows”.

Now I understand what all the fuss is about. LEONA IS AMAZING. Perez posted a link to a performance she recently did on Radio 1… a cover of Snow Patrol‘s Run…and I was completely, utterly blown away. I didn’t think it was possible for me to love this song any more than I already did, but Leona’s version is almost better than the original. I must have listened to it at least 30 times last night. Honestly, you just DON’T hear voices like this every day and even more incredible, it’s LIVE.

Just how good is Leona? Not only does she have the full support of Simon Cowell, but she’s also got the legendary Clive Davis in her corner. Now those guys KNOW a star when they hear one.

Leona’s album is set to drop on November 13, and if there’s any justice in the world she will become a HUGE star on both sides of the Atlantic. In a music industry filled with over-processed, soulless, mindless crap, Leona is the real deal.
