The Nightwatchman & One Day as a Lion

The other day I was going through my ITunes library at home and came across Tom Morello’s solo debut ‘One Man Revolution’ under the name as The Nightwatchman. The album was released back in April 2007, months after word spread that Audioslave were going to disband and seeing that in my library got me thinking ‘Has he or any member of Rage Against The Machine released anything?’. I did a little bit of digging around and it turns out that both Tom Morello & Zack de la Rocha have released material since the reuniting of Rage Against The Machine and the breakup of Audioslave.

Tom Morello followed up his 2007 debut with his second album ‘The Fabled City’ which was released in September and featured guests include Serj Tankian, Perry Farrell and Shooter Jennings. If you enjoyed ‘One Man Revolution’ then you’ll definitely enjoy ‘The Fabled City’.

Since Rage Against The Machine disbanded in 2000 Tom Morello continued making music by forming Audioslave and then going on his own with The Nightwatchman. Zack de la Rocha on the other hand has laid low and has been working with former Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore on their side project One Day as a Lion. The two have been working on their side project since Zack de la Rocha parted ways the Rage Against The Machine but only released an EP this summer. One Day as a Lion has a similar sound to Rage Against The Machine which could be accounted for by Zack’s distinctive voice and lyrics and it’s evident in their single Wild International. With Zack’s voice and his political views & lyrics, it’s just like listening to Rage Against The Machine but with more of a hip-hop feel to it. Zack de la Rocha has stated that he wants to tour with One Day as a Lion but they need to find a keyboardist so he can focus on the vocals during the tour.
