Last year the Oscars got it right just nominating Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova for Best Original Song Written For A Motion Picture; the fact that their song Falling Slowly from the movie Once actually won…still gives me chills thinking about it.
This year, however, the Oscars have totally messed it up. Aside from the fact that Bruce Springsteen’s tune The Wrestler just might be one of the best songs he has ever written, IT WON THE GOLDEN GLOBE FOR BEST ORIGINAL SONG!! I’m not quite sure how, in a category with only three nominees, the Golden Globe winning song this year is not even nominated. Why not make it the fourth nominee?!
The fact that Peter Gabriel has decided not to perform his nominated song Down to Earth from Wall-E in protest of only being allowed to perform 60 seconds of it on the broadcast just might be a karma backhand from the musical gods for one of the biggest music Oscar goofs EVER.
End rant.

I completely agree. Not like Bruce needs another award to validate his career, but the song totally deserves the Oscar.

i know, i’m afraid that because of that, their song will have no chance on winning. But he is right for not agreeing to do it, it would be an embarrassment and would sound silly to cut that specific song down to only a minute…
