FYI, the Polaris Music Prize is not-for-profit organization that honours, celebrates and rewards creativity and diversity in Canadian recorded music. Polaris recognizes and markets albums of the highest artistic integrity, without regard to musical genre, professional affiliation, or sales history. it is adjudicated by selected music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers. Each year 40 albums are voted on to a long list, from which ten are selected and then one winner decided by a grand jury. The winning artist receives $30,000 and bragging rights for the best Canadian album of the past year. Though, let’s face it, Canadians don’t often brag about such things.
The winner of the 2012 Polaris Music Prize will be decided at the Gala on September 24th.
Watch a special episode of The Wedge this Sunday at 7:00 AM EST, shot at the short list announcement, featuring interviews with members of nominated bands and various members of the Polaris organization.
