Karkwa! That’s right, the five-piece rock band from Montreal is the winner of the 2010 Polaris Music Prize! Their album Les Chemins de Verre scored the francophones $20,000 and their name in the record books as the fifth winner of the Polaris Music Prize. Karkwa were up against stiff competition from Short Listed Nominees, including Tegan and Sara, Shad, RadioRadio, Owen Pallet, The Besnard Lakes, The Sadies, Dan Mangan, Caribou and Broken Social Scene. The event, which took place at MTV’s Masonic Temple on Yonge St. in Toronto, was hosted by MuchMusic VJ Sarah Taylor and CBC Radio 3′s Grant Lawrence.
