The Power of Madonna: Let Your Body Move to the Music

April 19th, 2010

The Power of Madonna!!

Tuesday’s the day songs by the Material Girl are belted out by the cast of Glee.

As the boys at school keep bullying the girls of glee, it’s time for the Power of Madonna: the Glee club sings hit after hit (ten songs total!!) as they stand up for themselves (and get us jumping off our feet and singing along!).

Here’s a sneak peak of “Like A Prayer” featuring all our favourite gleeks.

Now that we got you hurting for Madonna, here are ten songs we hope (and can’t wait to hear) the cast of Glee sing.

Express Yourself
This song is A-MAZE-ING!! It pretty much tells it straight up – don’t settle. We each deserve the best, so if we’re not happy (or if someone’s not making us happy) we have to say so, and either set things changing or move on.

Best line: Long stem roses are the way to your heart / But he needs to start with your head / Satin sheets are very romantic / What happens when you’re not in bed

Like a Virgin
What a way to tell someone you love them! This song puts to rest past loves and experiences – and stare only at the one in front of you – that’s who’s making you feel special, and who you’re focusing all your attention on.

Best Line: Didn’t know how lost I was until I found you

Human Nature
One of Madonna’s more fearless songs, this hit chanted out “don’t be afraid of what you feel”. Madonna has always supported expressing one’s opinions and feelings without persecution, and Human Nature’s message rang true for many fans. It also helped open up healthy conversations and discussions about sexual education.

Best Line: Did I stay too long? / Oops, I didn’t know I couldn’t speak my mind

Don’t Tell Me
An anthem for “keep going” this song tells us not to stop what we’re doing, the direction we’re heading, or not to fall in love – it’s great for inspiration and getting over heartbreak.’

Best Line: Don’t you ever / Tell me love isn’t true it’s just something that we do / Don’t you ever / Tell me everything I’m not / but don’t ever tell me to stop

Brrr….! This video was so cold you could even feel the wind whipping across Madonna’s black hair. And fittingly so – the song reaches out to someone who won’t let you in (and how many of us can say we’ve never felt that way). It’s a great song for trying to work out problems in relationships when there’s no communication.

Best Line: You only see what your eyes want to see / How can life be what you want it to be / You’re frozen / When your heart’s not open

La Isla Bonita
Grease, eat your heart out. The ultimate “Summer Lovin” song, Madonna sings of romance under a hot sun in paradise…. ***sigh****…..where was I? The beautiful Spanish beats and tropical imagery made us all want to be on La Isla Bonita (The Beautiful Island).

Best Line: Beautiful faces, no cares in this world / Where a girl loves a boy, and a boy loves a girl

Material Girl
Madonna will always be AKA the Material Girl. The song highlights being able to win girls over with money and riches, while the video shows Madonna choosing to date the penniless director. Showing the world’s reliance on money over what matters, the song has become one of her most recognizable hits around the world.

Best Line: ’cause the boy with the cold hard cash / Is always mister right, ’cause we are / Living in a material world / And I am a material girl

Papa Don’t Preach
Whoa – I can’t imagine what it feels like to have this conversation with your dad, but unfortunately, a lot of girls have to bite the bullet and tell their parents about teen pregnancy. Madonna manages to sing exactly what our minds would say (yes, you always taught me right from wrong, but right now I don’t need to be lectured, I need some advice!).

Best Line: But my friends keep telling me to give it up / Saying I’m too young, I ought to live it up / What I need right now is some good advice, please

Like a Prayer
Full of gospel singing, cross-burning, stigmata and racism Madonna did no less than cause controversy and headlines with this one. But the song itself sang beautiful imagery of a higher power/calling and the feeling faith and believing has on people.

Best Line: I hear your voice, it’s like an angel sighing / I have no choice, I hear your voice

Who doesn’t want true love? Madonna sings exactly what we’re all searching for with every date, every flirtatious smile, and every good-night kiss. We all want someone to cherish, who’ll always be there whenever we need them.

Best Line: I can’t let go — baby, can’t you see? / Cupid please take your aim at me
