Last night’s Golden Globes proved to be pretty painless - there was the usual lack of unfunny host to contribute to that, plus the fact that the show wrapped up nicely at 11 o’clock with no one abusing their time up at the podium. There were a few people who appeared to be under the influence (Sandra Oh, George Clooney, Melanie Griffith & Jonathan Rhys Meyers, among others) and then a few who were charmingly bashful about winning their award (Reese Witherspoon, Felicity Huffman & Phillip Seymour Hoffman - a man after my own heart!).

I could have done with Gwyneth Paltrow repeatedly calling Anthony Hopkins “Antony” and slipping into an Irish accent throughout her speech, John Travolta calling Pierce Brosnan “Pierce BRONSON”, and the Globes’ theme song - a doctored version of Pussycat Dolls’ “Don’t Cha”: “Don’t cha think that Jamie [Foxx] look HOT tonight? Don’t cha think that Reese might WIN tonight?”
