November 14th, 2008

On Tuesday night I checked out The Stills at Danforth Music Hall for the first of four nights opening for Sam Roberts. Four nights - talk about being in high demand! It seemed to be a great pairing, cause The Stills managed to prime everyone for the hour and a half of solid rock they were about to hear from Sam & crew.
If you’ve never been to the Danforth Music Hall, it’s a 1100 person seated venue not quite suited to ‘rocking out’. So The Stills had barely tucked into their opening song (Eastern Europe) before Tim declared “this is a rock concert, not a f**king movie! Come down to the stage, everyone!” and about fifty people (including me!) stormed their way down to the front row. It was quite an improved vantage point than sitting in row Y, let me tell you. We rocked out to ten solid tracks before taking our seats again.
A few songs in security tried to hunker down and get people to return to their seats, but bassist Olivier was having absolutely none of it, and he laid down the law and insisted that security ease up and let the fans stay up front. Thanks Olivier!
