We waited five years for The Strokes to release their fourth album, Angles, this past Tuesday. But if we’re to believe the band, we won’t have to wait that much longer for their fifth.
In an interview with UK radio station Xfm, bassist Nikolai Fraiture said The Strokes are looking to begin writing their next album in a few weeks.
“We were just talking about when we would get back together and start writing for the next album,” he said. “It should be soon. April, mid-April.”
If you think this could just be off-the-cuff remark, Fraiture along with bandmates Julian Casablancas and Nick Valensi, recently stated their plan is to keep the albums coming.
“I don’t ever want to stop making new albums,” Fraiture told Shortlist. If we take another break, and I really hope we don’t, it won’t be something in my control.”
“I think we’re going to start working on stuff as soon as possible,” Casablancas also told Shortlist. “We were supposed to already, but it took longer than expected to master the album. I didn’t want to work on ‘Strokes No 5′ until ‘Strokes No 4′ was done.”
Added Valensi: “There’s material in the works. We have a lot of music stockpiled so, in terms of content, we’re in a good place right now. If I had it my way, we’d have another album out by the end of this year.”
Such teases.
