If you saw this week’s Pretty Little Liars, you’re just as interested as I am where they’re taking this whole Aria/Mr. Fritz storyline. Are they the real deal (each other’s one and only?) or is Mr. Fritz just a guy who can’t find a girl his own age? Will they cross the line or keep it sweet? If other teenage-shows have taught us anything, these relationships can go either way!
Pretty Little Liars
Aria Montgomery / Ezra Fritz (the sweet, but definitely illegal thing)
Aria hasn’t been in town recently, and her back-story is pretty intense. Her best friend was murdered and her father cheated on her mother. So coming back and seeing her old digs, well, you can’t blame her for wanting to hook up with a guy before school starts. And what’s a little white lie to a guy you’re probably never going to see again….unless you see him first thing in homeroom on the first day at school! So the mature thing would be to politely stop any further kissing/touching, and transferring out of the class. And of course, when that doesn’t work, it’s coming over late at night and hanging out, cooking dinner; making out, chilling with his friends……yeah, let’s just throw caution to the wind: these things always work out, don’t they?
Let’s see:
Degrassi: The Next Generation
Paige Michalchuk / Matt Oleander (the bad-fallout)
After a string of bad guys (and if you know this girl history, you know that’s an understatement!) Paige starts to date Degrassi Media teaching assistant, Mr. O. They keep it secret for a while (just passing notes in class), but after another student catches then kissing (and calling him Mr. Pedophile) that kicks the situation front and centre! The school board is called, and Mr. O tells them what he can – Paige is obsessed and stalking him! Paige is pissed, but goes along with the story. But she can’t transfer out of his class or change schools….as they don’t believe her. In the end, Mr. O fesses up….and gets fired. And then he leaves Toronto for Yukon.
In the end, he gets really screwed (and not the good kind).
Gossip Girl
Dan Humphrey / Miss Carr (the sorta-legal thing)
Dan Humphrey, one of the Gossip Girl playboys – had his teenage fantasy come true when he met naughty teacher Miss Carr. At first, they were the real deal – she was the teacher, he was the student. However, in order to screw over on-again/off-again girlfriend Serena, the other Gossip Girl queen bee, Blair, started the rumour they were “more” than just “student-teacher”. And boy did that rumour mill spin! Miss Carr was fired from her job. Serena and Dan were on the rocks. And then what happened…..Miss Carr, no longer a teacher, and Dan, single and heartbroken, really did practice what they learned in biology!
In the end, they didn’t act on anything while she was in teacher. But she was still older than him…..and he was still in love with Serena.
Dawson’s Creek
Pacey Whitter / Tamara Jacobs (the really, definitely illegal thing)
Pacey is just your average bad boy….who starts to flirt with Miss Jacobs. And by flirt, I mean get some tongue. And at first, they are happy to see each other in secret…..but of course, as a typical guy, Pacey can’t keep his mouth shut. He tells best friend Dawson, but doesn’t realize his story is being overheard. In comes the trusty school board, out to solve crime by having a trial for Miss Jacobs. Before she can even say her piece and spin their story, Pacey swoops in and saves the day – it was all his teenaged fantasy that was overheard – nothing more. Of course, she still resigns and leaves the school, but she still has her career intact. And then they visit each other later and get down!
In the end, the lie works…..so they do get away with it….that can’t be the message they’re trying to send, right?
What do you think?
