The Teenagers @ Great Hall

January 28th, 2008

It’s funny, cause last year when I was googling or searching for any sort of info or music about Paris-based band The Teenagers, the only results I’d ever get would be for the 1950s doo-wop group of the same name or My Chemical Romance‘s song Teenagers (ace song, btw). And at The Teenagers’ Toronto debut at Great Hall last night, guitarist Dorian Dumont was wearing an MCR t-shirt (word has it he’s been wearing this shirt all tour). Fun!

The venue was pretty rammed, and the crowd appeared to consist mostly of those “ugly-on-purpose” hipsters (you know the ones – they wear purposely mismatched and shoddy clothes, GROSS giant glasses – with or without lenses in them – ill-fitting headbands and they sneer a lot…how is this sexy? Ugh.) and fangirls who swooned at frontman Quentin Delafon (talk about a great name for a singer in a band!). During Homecoming and Starlett Johansson, Quentin performed almost entirely from within the crowd and the girls were pawing at him incessantly, pulling his hair and at his clothes.

It was a brief but entertaining set – the guys haven’t even released an album yet, but Reality Check will be out soon (you can already buy the whole thing on iTunes, btw), and thanks to pretty much every music magazine and website namedropping them as a hot act to follow in 2008, they’re already selling out venues worldwide and even playing at Coachella later this year.
