The Vampire Diaries S2: Katherine’s Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

First off – Damon Salvatore was crowned the sexiest beast of our times! With that in mind you do not want to miss the season premiere of The Vampire Diaries on Much September 10, 2010 @ 9PM ET!

When we last left the vamps of Mystic Falls there were murders, magic and a forbidden kiss running loose during the Founder’s Day celebrations. Here’s a quick refresher on the Brothers’ Salvatore, everything you need to know about last season, why this show rocks and some quickies about the new season:

“THIS SHOW ROCKS” FACT #1: LUV TRIANGLE SMUV TRIANGLE – THE WHOLE DAMN TOWN’S INVOLVED!

Meet Elena Gilbert: the pretty girl next door who’s as sweet and popular as she is independent and brave. Orphaned, she lives with depressed brother Jeremy and young Aunt Jenna. Determined to beat her own sadness she befriends Stefan Salvatore, the new brooding hottie at her school. As they become close she discovers his dark secret: he’s not human. Elena decides “what the hell” and accepts the creature of darkness as her boyfriend.

But that’s not all. Stefan’s more ruthless and way more fun brother Damon comes to town too, wanting to set free a bunch of vampires the town imprisoned years ago. Nothing stops him as he’s already tortured Elena’s BFF Caroline Forbes and killed Vicki Donovan, Jeremy’s girlfriend. But after Elena helps Damon cover the murder, he knows he has her in his power.

Damon’s tool to open the tomb: Elena’s other BFF Bonnie Bennett who’s also learning the Bennett family is more than meets the eye. Bonnie is a descendant of witches that protect Mystic Falls. But there’s also a council of the town’s founding families who know all about vampires and how to kill them. And they know the Salvatore Brothers are back!

Bonnie and friends open the tomb so Damon can find what he’s looking for: Katherine, the vampire that made him and Stefan back in the day AND the woman they were both in love with.

But Katherine’s not there. AND they can’t close the tomb AND vampires are now running rampant in Mystic Falls just like they did in the past.

Things can’t get worse, right? WRONG!

“THIS SHOW ROCKS” FACT #2: THIS AIN’T TWILIGHT!

After opening the tomb Stefan (the good vampire remember) breaks his vow to never drink human blood and develops an addiction to the red stuff.

Elena finds out that she’s a dead ringer for Katherine. Why? Elena is descended from Katherine. It turns out her momma and pappa aren’t her real birthparents. Her mother is a woman named Isobel and her father is really Jonathan Gilbert (a man she always thought was her uncle). Of course this is after she sleeps with Stefan who knew about this the whole time and didn’t tell her.

Damon teams up with vampire hunter Alaric Saltzman to hunt down the escaped vampires. Turns out Alaric (who’s dating Elena’s Aunt Jenna BTW) is the ex-husband of newly turned vampire Isobel.

Jeremy discovers a young girl named Anna who is also a vampire. She helps teach the newly escaped vamps the ways of the modern world and convinces Jeremy to get over his dead girlfriend and turn like her.

And then it was Founder’s Day

“THIS SHOW ROCKS” FACT #3: MYSTIC FALLS KNOWS HOW TO PARTY!

The escaped vampires want to take back their town. The founding families of Mystic Falls have a plan to kill the vamps. And Elena and Stefan are caught in the middle.

As the vampires are taken down one by one Damon, Stefan, Anna, and Mystic Falls’ Mayor Lockwood are all trapped in a burning cellar where the town plans to burn the vamps. Elena convinces Bonnie to save the brothers but the Mayor and Anna end up biting the dust. The Mayor’s son Tyler manages to escape but gets hit with a bad case of werewolf-ism.

In the end Damon goes to Elena’s to thank her for saving his life but kisses her instead. What he doesn’t know is the woman he kissed wasn’t Elena – it was Katherine back in Mystic Falls! And she’s on a revenge rampage against the town that tried to kill her. Her first move: attacking Elena’s birth father Jonathan Gilbert.

SOME QUICKIES FOR SEASON 2 (SPOILER ALERT – AVERT YOUR EYES!):

• There’s a new university grad who is following in Isobel’s research on the supernatural. She helps Alaric and Damon figure out what Isobel was going after.

• There’s a new high schooler who likes to party at the Lockwood house. Played by Maiara Walsh (formerly of Desperate Housewives and Secret Life of the American Teenager fame) I wonder if she loves wolves?

• With the Mayor dead (or is he?) his brother comes to town and fills in Tyler Lockwood on what he’s been going through. We can expect to see some werewolf action sometime in season 2. As for the Mayor, remember, only silver can kill a werewolf!

• We’re in for more team-ups this year. Everyone loves Damon and Alaric (Team Daric!) but there’s a new duo to watch for season two: Stefan and Matt (Team Statt?)

• We know Jonathan Gilbert is expected for at least one appearance on the new season (the premiere). So let’s hope if he’s alive in Episode 1, he’ll make a return later on in season 2.

• Jeremy isn’t dead. We just don’t know if he’s human. But he’s definitely back for season 2. They’ve been pretty quiet on that front. But Anna’s out for good. That’s too bad.
