The Wedge A.M. News Round Up: Ash announce “best of,” lost documentary release

August 10th, 2011

Long-running Brit band Ash have announced they’ll be releasing a new career-spanning compilation. Titled The Best of Ash, the 19-track collection will feature 18 of their hit singles from the past 19 years, as well as a 2011 re-recording of their very first single, “Jack Names the Planets.” As a cherry on top, the band will finally release their lost documentary Teenage Wildfire on DVD, which was shot during the band’s rise to fame in the mid-’90s and features narration by actor Ewan McGregor. The CD/DVD release will be available on October 17th. Following that, the band will do a brief tour playing their 2001 album, Free All Angels, in its entirety. Former guitarist Charlotte Hatherley will join the band for those dates. (Via Clash)

Liam Gallagher’s clothing store, Pretty Green, was attacked in Manchester last night. Looters ransacked the shop after smashing its windows and stealing the stock. This follows the massive warehouse fire that happened in Enfield, London the night before that saw more than 150 record labels lose stock. (Via NME)

Up-and-coming rapper Theophilus London has teamed up with dance punks Friendly Fires for a North American tour. After he finishes some dates with Big Boi, London will then join the UK band for an October run that includes two Canadian dates: Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom on October 18th and Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre on the 23rd.
