The Wedge News Round Up: Black Keys release ‘Blakroc 2′ trailer

September 2nd, 2011

Despite telling our host Damian that they didn’t think they would do another one at the MMVAs this year, The Black Keys apparently will release a second album as part of their hip-hop collaborative series, Blakroc. According to a new trailer that has surfaced online, some of the guests that will make an appearance include Talib Kweli, Sean Price, Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, U-God, Jim Jones, the Cool Kids and Jay Electronica. The trailer says the album is “coming soon,” but seeing as the first one was released on Black Friday in 2009, chances are it will drop on the same day, which is November 25th this year. Much like Canada’s Polaris Music Prize and the now defunct Shortlist Prize, the Welsh Music Prize has followed in the footsteps of the Mercury Prize. Highlighting the best Welsh albums released in the last 12 months, the shortlist has now been announced and includes albums by artists such as Manic Street Preachers, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), The Joy Formidable and Funeral For A Friend, to name a few. Last year, Björk teamed up with indie band Dirty Projectors for a collaborative EP titled Mount Wittenberg Orca. Originally just a digital release, the record will be available in the physical formats of CD and limited edition vinyl on October 25th. The vinyl features a deluxe three-dimensional lenticular sleeve, 180 gram heavyweight wax, and a deluxe 12 page large-format full color booklet. A very limited number of the LPs will also come with an exclusive Dirty Projectors signed photo print of the album cover when purchased from Domino Mart. (Via Consequence of Sound)

Fuzzy dream pop upstarts Blouse have announced a release date for their debut album. The self-titled LP will be out via Captured Tracks on October 31st and include the two tracks they released on Sub Pop earlier this year. (Via Exclaim!)

You can now watch the documentary on the seminal indie record label Rough Trade online. Originally airing on BBC Four back in 2009, Do It Yourself: The Story of Rough Trade features interviews with everyone from owner/founder Geoff Travis, to artists he signed like Scritti Politti, The Smiths’ Johnny Marr, and Jarvis Cocker. It’s a nice history lesson on one of the label that discovered The Slits, The Smiths, The Strokes, The Libertines. (Via Vimeo)
