Long-running Welsh rockers Manic Street Preachers have announced that they will go on a hiatus following the release of a new singles collection. In an interview with NME, bassist/songwriter Nicky Wire said “It’s the end of an era, not the end of the band but we’re going to disappear for quite a long time. Ideally we have to push ourselves to do something that we haven’t done before. But I do feel it is going to be at least two or three years before we come back after this greatest hits collection.” During their time away, the trio still plan on completing their next album, 70 Songs Of Hatred And Failure. Industrial music heavyweights Ministry have announced they’ll reform for a new album and tour in 2012. Frontman Al Jourgensen said a health scare in which he “bled out 65 percent of my body” from a burst ulcer and technically died before receiving a “100 percent blood transfusion” changed his mind about retiring three years ago. The tour will be limited as he’s still on the mend, but Jourgensen added that “we’re gonna finish up and put out another Ministry album by Christmas called Relapse. … I think this is actually gonna wind up being the fastest and heaviest record I’ve ever done.” (Via Slicing Up Eyeballs)
Former hype magnets Glasvegas cut their set short at the V Festival in Chelmsford, England on Saturday. The Scots only lasted four songs before walking off stage after bottles were thrown at them. The band’s management issued a statement saying, “It’s an honour for Glasvegas to play in front of any crowd… The kids that come along to the festivals are passionate about their music – they’ve saved and sacrificed for months to pay for tickets and want to have an amazing weekend… Glasvegas respect this and will always give the crowd 100%. All we want is for everyone, including the band, to have a good time and go home safely.” (Via NME)
