The Wedge A.M. News Round Up: Mercury Prize shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2011 Barclaycard Mercury Prize have been announced. The lucky ten albums vying for the prize are Let England Shake by PJ Harvey, Disc-Overy by Tinie Tempah, The English Riviera by Metronomy, On A Mission by Katy B, Anna Calvi by Anna Calvi, Man Alive by Everything Everything, Good Days at Schloss Elmau by Gwilym Simcock, 21 by Adele, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam by Ghostpoet, James Blake by James Blake, Build A Rocket Boys! by Elbow, and Diamond Mine by King Creosote & Jon Hopkins. Oddsmakers William Hill have made Adele and PJ Harvey joint favourite at 4/1. (Via FACT)

More details have been revealed about the new M83 album. Titled Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, the release will be a 22-track double album inspired by Smashing Pumpkins’ Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. It will feature guest appearances from Zola Jesus, Medicine’s Brad Laner and Beck/Nine Inch Nails collaborator Justin Meldal-Johnson. (Via Pitchfork)

SPIN have compiled an all-star cast (well, indie rock style) of bands to cover Nirvana’s Nevermind for its 20th anniversary. Titled Newermind, the tribute includes Titus Andronicus doing “Breed,” Meat Puppets doing “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Surfer Blood doing “Territorial Pissings” and EMA doing hidden track “Endless, Nameless.” You can download it here.
