The Wedge A.M. News Round Up: Tom Waits reveals new album

August 23rd, 2011

The inimitable Tom Waits will return on October 25th to release his first album in five years. Bad as Me follows up 2006’s triple LP Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards and while the details are a bit scarce, iTunes has revealed it will be released with bonus material on top of the original 13 tracks. English synth-pop duo Summer Camp have announced plans to release their debut album on Halloween. Titled Welcome to Condale, the record was produced by Pulp bassist Steve Mackey. The band partly financed the album by raising money through donations from fans in exchange for homemade chocolate brownies and mixtapes made by members Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey. If you read a recent story published by UK tabloid the Mirror stating that beloved English band The Libertines were reuniting for a tour, well, you’ve been had. According to singer/songwriter Carl BarĂ¢t, it’s “Complete fabrication, folks.” His management followed up the post on Facebook, writing, “Truth of the matter is there are NO plans whatsoever in the pipeline and both of them are committed to other things for the next year anyway. Carl leaves for Paris next month for rehearsals on his opera which will keep him busy until next June and Peter is away on tour.” (Via Facebook)

Another reunion that is unlikely to happen is The Replacements. Although the surviving members have come together in recent years to record some songs for a compilation, Paul Westerberg, Tommy Stinson and Chris Mars seem to be at a fork in the road. Rolling Stone tried to initiate a reunion recently, but only got an “I don’t know, man” from Westerberg and an “if a reunion happens, it happens. If the planets align and the oceans don’t swallow up the earth first” from Stinson. Mars, is reportedly, not interested. (Via Rolling Stone)
