Earlier this morning, the nominations for the 2013 Juno Awards were announced in Toronto. Among all the big names like Bieber, Carly Rae and Celine were a handful of smaller ones that represented the best in Canadian music that finds its way onto The Wedge. Yeah, the weird stuff!
Leading the way with two nominations each were Grimes and The Weeknd, who will go head-to-head with Cold Specks for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Grimes is also nominated for Electronic Album of the Year, in what is likely the most interesting category for Wedge viewers. Also on that is Crystal Castles, Daphni (aka Dan Snaith of Caribou), Purity Ring and Trust. The Weeknd, on the other hand, seems like a sure thing to win for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year.
Elsewhere, Bahamas seems like a favourite for Adult Alternative Album of the Year, and it could be a toss up between Japandroids and Stars for Alternative Album of the Year.

Michael Bublé hosts the 2013 Juno Awards, which airs live on CTV April 21.
