Well, it’s pretty obvious that The Strokes aren’t exactly what they used to be ten years ago, but now frontman Julian Casablancas has resorted to selling perfume in a new ad for French fragrance company Azzaro. The campaign is for a scent called “Decibel: The Essence of Rock,” which as we all know, Julian already exudes during his band’s sweaty shows. The campaign says to “be rock ‘n’ roll… Free yourself from what society dictates, break free from the chains, and unleash your sensuality.” As for the scent, Azzaro describes it as “multi-faceted, with the strongest notes smelling of Aldehydes and Green Italian Tangerine” with hints of “licorice, violet, Haitian Vetiver, Tonka Bean and Vanilla.” Exactly what every rock’n'roll star wants to reek of. Two years ago we saw a reunion by the Jesus Lizard, now David Yow’s previous band Scratch Acid have announced a reunion tour. Getting back together in 2006 to play the Touch & Go anniversary celebration, the band will play nine North American dates (Toronto included) leading up to a performance at All Tomorrow’s Parties in December. For the last week or so, Tokyo Police Club have been revealing a new cover song between the years of 2001 and 2010. So far they’ve tackled everything from The Strokes and Phoenix, to LCD Soundsystem and Kelly Clarkson, and today featured their version of M83′s “Kim & Jessie.” Saturday will be the last of these “10 songs in 10 days” project, but once it’s all over, the band will package up all of them for a digital release on October 4th. Nominees for the 2011 ECHO Songwriting Prize have been announced. Recognizing the best in Canadian indie music, the public can vote on which song they feel deserves the $5000 prize. The nominated songs are: Katie Moore’s “Wake Up Like This,” Handsome Furs’ “When I Get Back,” Arcade Fire’s “We Used to Wait,” Austra’s “The Beat and the Pulse” and PS I Love You’s “2012.” The winner will be named on October 11th. TV On the Radio will release a new live EP on September 6th. Titled World Cafe Live, the five-song set includes songs recorded at the Village Studios in Santa Monica, California. Four of the five songs are taken from their recent Nine Types of Light album. (Via Prefix)
