The Wedge P.M. News Round Up: CMJ announces initial 2011 line-up

The annual CMJ Music Marathon has announced its first group of performers for the 2011 festival/conference in NYC. Among the hundreds of bands performing over the five days will be Neon Indian, Wild Flag, Dum Dum Girls, Zola Jesus, EMA, Braids, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Eleanor Friedberger, Metronomy, Handsome Furs, Portugal. The Man and Memoryhouse, to name a few. (Via CMJ)

The always adventurous Flying Lotus has announced a new project. The Mapping of Countries Yet to Come will be a multi-media collaboration with artist/animator/filmmaker Miwa Matreyek. Described as a way to “find inspiration and direct sampling of northeast Los Angeles’ imagery and sounds” as well as “celebrate the present communities surrounding Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock,” the work will open at the at CFAER in June of 2012. If you’ve got nothing to do tonight, pull up a chair and your computer and take in the Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks in-store performance at Amoeba Records in Hollywood tonight. Coinciding with the release of the band’s new album, Mirror Traffic, the show starts at 6:00 PM PST and will be streaming live at the store’s website. (Via One Thirty BPM)
