The Wedge P.M. News Round Up: Inside Sufjan Stevens’ dance rehearsal

July 29th, 2011

On August 2nd and 3rd, beloved singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens will end his lengthy tour with two shows at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park in support of last year’s The Age of Adz. To commemorate the occasion, Sufjan hired a choreographer to incorporate dance routines into the show. Vulture caught up with him to discuss the performances as well as get a peak of some routines concertgoers can expect to see. (Via Vulture)

Morrissey has responded to his fans’ outrage over his comparing the Norway massacre to fast food chains’ animal slaughter. In closing he wrote: “If you quite rightly feel horrified at the Norway killings, then it surely naturally follows that you feel horror at the murder of ANY innocent being. You cannot ignore animal suffering simply because animals ‘are not us.’” (Via True To You)

DFA-signed duo Holy Ghost! have announced a brief North American tour beginning at the end of October. The nine-date jaunt will include three Canadian stops: Montreal’s Belmount on the Blvd. on October 31st, Toronto’s 69 Bathurst on November 1st and Vancouver’s Fortune Club on the 8th. The band have also released a new single, “Some Children,” which features the one and only soft rock legend Michael McDonald. (Via Exclaim!)

And last night The Flaming Lips and Weezer not only performed side by side on the same stage during a show in New Jersey, but also performed together to begin and close out the show. Both Wayne Coyne and Rivers Cuomo emerged from bubbles, playing a “Space Bubble intro” and Black Sabbath’s “Sweet Leaf,” and then bidding farewell with the Lips’ “She Don’t Use Jelly” and Weezer’s “Undone – The Sweater Song.” (Via Pitchfork & Brooklyn Vegan)
