The Wedge P.M. News Round Up: The War On Drugs announce North American tour

Road warriors The War On Drugs are getting back to what they do best, embarking on another tour for their recently released and universally praised new album, Slave Ambient. The Philly band have added another leg to their fall tour that sees them go into December to support The National for a NYC show as well as headline the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. Swedish minimal electronic act The Field will also hit the road this fall in support of their upcoming new album, Looping State of Mind. Three Canadian dates are on the schedule including Toronto’s Wrongbar (October 22nd), Montreal’s Le Belmont (24th) and Vancouver’s Electric Owl (November 5th). (Via Exclaim!)

Without much notice, Belle & Sebastian’s Stevie Jackson has digitally released his debut solo album this week via the Banchory label. Titled (I Can’t Get No) Stevie Jackson, the album features guest appearances by the New Pornographers’ Kurt Dahle and John Collins, the Pastels’ Katrina Mitchell, and various members of Belle and Sebastian. Physical copies of the album will be released on October 24th. He’s put up two of the songs on Soundcloud to check out. (Via Exclaim!)

CMJ has finalized its line-up for this year’s Music Marathon. Completing the bill are Islands, Twin Shadow, Caveman, Weekend, Cerebral Ballzy, Hollerado, Turbo Fruits, Wise Blood, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Braids, Active Child, aarabMUZIK, Eternal Summers, Gross Magic, Grimes, Japanther, Suckers, The Death Set, Zambri, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, and Frankie Rose & the Outs. Contrary to this morning’s reports that Bloc Party are currently holding auditions for a new singer, the band have issued a statement that simply reads: “Bloc Party is still Bloc Party. See you soon.” Seeing as the Matt Groening cartoon they posted includes singer Kele Okereke, we’ll take that as confirmation that he’s still in the band. (Via Bloc Party)
