Every year Halloween brings the inevitable: candy, costumes, Jack O’Lanterns and elaborate lawn displays by some over and underzealous neighbours. It’s also a time for a surplus of Halloween mixes that hit and miss the point. This week Diplo completely dropped the ball with his, opting for more of a Diplo DJ set, while the annual mix by Gorilla Vs Bear and Memory Tapes’ minimix fared better. Not to toot our own horns, but we prefer our own mix featuring spooky tunes strictly from the ’80s.
Looking around the interweb this morning, we dug up five recent mixes that best captured the haunted spirit of October 31st.
Deadboy: Halloween MMXII Mix
“[A] 42 minute soundtrack to Halloween, this is the dystopian nightmare where heavily bearded disco svengalis, codeine addled rappers and unbalanced london grime producers are stalking you on the night bus home.”
Leopard Of Honour: Who Is This Who Is Coming
30 horror movies (including A Nightmare On Elm Street, Phenomena, Candyman, Deep Red & Black Christmas) were sampled and mixed into a 23-megamix presented by Abeano.com.
405 Halloween Mix 2012
A hectic mix of new and old stuff featuring mood-setting tracks by Clams Casino, How To Dress Well, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, METZ, Danny Elfman and more.
Teapots and Flicknives
“A Halloween mash up of horror soundtracks and other spooky seasonal treats, featuring guest appearances from John Carpenter, Burt Bacharach, Biz Markie, Goblin and the Goblin King!”
Feral Bueller: WWJCD?
“Special Halloween mixtape of a few of my favourite John Carpenter scores, strictly for the horror geeks out there!”
