Ever since Toronto’s The Weeknd entered the scene, he’s been fairly tight-lipped, ignoring the press and refusing all interviews – but not anymore! After his show in London last night, British music mag NME snagged an exclusive interview with Abel Tesfaye.
Not only shying away from the media, Tesfaye waited for a period of time before even touring, telling NME that before his live shows, he only existed in people’s bedrooms and iPods, jokingly adding, “I make good music for long journeys.”
“There was so much pressure coming in,” he continues. “But I’ve played it well because being off the circuit has allowed me to practice with this band back home in Toronto for months.”
When asked if the R&B singer always knew he was going to set out and release a trilogy – which comprises of all three of his releases to date in physical format and was released recently – he replied, “I knew the second I finished the first record – House of Balloons – and had all this material leftover that a trilogy would be best.”
