The White Stripes: Note Perfect

I think The White Stripes are a cool band - in a sea of cookie-cutter groups, they stand out for their red-and-white hued appearance, their unique sound and the artistry with which they approach their craft.

And continuing in the vein of unpredictable public performances that they’ve maintained throughout their coast-to-coast Canadian tour (appearing at YMCAs, on public buses, etc.), they ended things off in St. John’s, NF on a high note. Literally.

On Monday night, according to this story, they set up in a pedestrian area of St. John’s and proceeded to play a single note - whereupon they reminded everyone of their actual show to take place later that eve and left the stage.

To their credit, the crowd had already been warned that they shouldn’t expect a full show, so people were in on the joke rather than the butt of it.

Also, butts are funny.
