The xx (currently touring with Friendly Fires and soon Hot Chip) and jj, the mysterious Swedish electro-pop band, are rumoured to be a touring in the early months of 2010. The xx have been scheduelled to tour with Friendly Fires, Holly Miranda, Hot Chip, and a brief tour with jj.
If you haven’t heard of the xx, they began as a quartet in London, England. A simple set involving the lead guitar, bass guitar, MPC sampler/beats, and the keyboardist (who has recently left the group). The band released their self-titled debut album in August 2009 and have been a growing name ever since. Their unique sound contains a wide range of influences all pulled together by the delicate, hushed vocal duets and innovative use of samples creating their bitter-sweet sound.
jj, on the otherhand, has worked hard to keep completely annoymous. The first album was released on the Swedish label Sincerely Yours in July 2009. Listen to jj’s track “Ecstasy” and you will notice the slo-mo styles of Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” - borrowing from hip hop culture to prove that sharing is in fact, caring. Molding it into this ambient music which is almost hypnotic. The nine-track album is eerily playful.
The FF (Friendly Fires) and the xx have a couple Canadian dates schedulled in Vancouver, Toronto, and ending in Montreal. So far, the only scheduelled dates for the xx + jj tour are in the Eastern US. Let’s cross our fingers Canada.
Yesh, I feel like I’m in algebra class again…
