Christmas music is often the worst genre of music. Often just a quick cashgrab, original songs are either ignored to do the umpteenth version of “White Christmas” or some kinda unlistenable. One of the better originals written in the last 30 years is Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” which has become the victim of numerous covers. I quite liked Jimmy Eat World’s version, but yeah, nothing beats hearing George Michael do it with those velvety English pipes.
Turns out, one of the last bands on Earth we’d expect to go yuletide on us is mopey UK trio The xx. But here they are, turning Wham!’s modern classic into even more of a heartbreaker. My question is: Where were those drums on their latest album, Coexist???
