POLARIS!
Big ups to Manny for getting the blog back in gear… there’s been a bunch of hot new spring tracks I’ve been wanting to write about – and I will soon, but first some more newsworthy stuff…
I’m sure the blogosphere and everyone and their brother are spreading the word about this but – the official announcement for the Polaris Music Prize was released earlier today. In a nutshell, it’s a Canuck version of the UK’s Nationwide Mercury Prize and the now defunct Shortlist Prize – to celebrate the best Canadian album of the year (released between June 1st 2005 – May 31st 2006). Ten Canadian records chosen strictly on their creative quality will be named to the shortlist on July 4th – with the winner being announced in September. The jury is composed of local and national music journalists and broadcasters (including yours truly). Hopefully it’ll give a big boost to some of our great unsung heroes.
