They Tried to Make Her Go to Prison

On the one hand, we’re not surprised Amy Winehouse got arrested. On the other hand we are surprised that it wasn’t for drugs. Thanks for keeping us on our toes, Amy. Good show. Holla! Golf claps all around! The troubled singer, who’s been up and down and down again this year has gone back to black. After hearing no news, or, okay, after having a week without a major breaking crisis, Wino has relapsed. Old bad habits (like standing by your man), die hard. And by die hard we don’t mean quick. We’re talking going down loud and in flames. Amy’s more Hidenburg than rip-off-the-BandAid, n’est ce pas?

The singer, whose troublemaking seems to trump her talent these days, was arrested by appointment in London today. Amy was booked in connection with an investigation into perverting the course of justice. (Can you craft a phrase more quintessentially British than that?) What this all comes back to is her husband, Blake “You Know He’s No Good” Civil-Fielder. He’s currently in prison and has been charged with the very thing Winehouse has been accused of. In his case, police say he tried to pay off witnesses in relating to charges her picked up for an assault back in June.(Note: If you’re on drugs, bribery probably ain’t wise. It’s hard to focus on covering your tracks when you keep getting hit with the munchie pangs.)

For now, Amy’s “safe”. She was released on bail and hasn’t been charged. (Any thoughts on how she’ll celebrate her freedom?) We hate to think what will happen if she continues to stick with her dude, Boozy McPunchie. We shouldn’t harp. Maybe by giving herself up for arrest she’s finally taking some responsibility. This could work in her favour. Though now’s the part where we gloss over reports that she turned herself in after a couple of early morning cocktails. Somehow we don’t think they were recommend as a part of her ongoing doctor-supervised substance abuse treatment? Though maybe they were… like you have to get worse in order to get better?

Pete Doherty can attest. He’s been all kinds of messy and now he’s training to run the London marathon. He’s a beacon for our lost lil’ Amy. Though don’t tell Papa Wino, who describes the ever-in-shambles singer as a “scumbag“.
Still, if Pete can evade the slammer so many times, we’re thinking there’s hope.

Anyhow, 10 bucks says she could escape by squeezing through the prison bars.
