Contest winner Kate Farrell blogged about her experience at 1D Day for us and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Much and Sony were able to fly her and two of her friends to Los Angeles for the special event and it’s clear to see Kate had a blast! Check out her story here.
I had never expected to be on the ground in hysterics after school last Monday, but when you get a call saying you won a trip to LA to see 1D what else could you expect?! For years I had been a HUGE fan of One Direction (along with millions of other people), and when MuchMusic called me and said I would be going to see 1DDay live; it’s safe to say I was extremely excited.
The night before 1D day all the winners and their friends had dinner together at the hotel, there were people from England to Japan! It all started to sink in what was happening when the representative from 1DDay started telling us exactly what would happen tomorrow. We would be seeing One Direction, and there would be other “surprises” throughout the day. I literally couldn’t wait.
The next day, winners were still not told what we would actually be doing during 1D Day, and I expected to be sitting with 100 other fans, maybe being able to catch a glimpse of 1D. It turned out there were only thirty people total, and we would definitely “get face to face time with the boys”. Ya, I was basically in tears at that point. There were two main rooms in the studio, the one where the band was actually filming 1D Day, then a small theatre where the fans were able to watch it. Even if I was in the same building as the boys I was fine – And then we actually had the chance to go into the studio to watch One Direction film! It was so amazing to get to see the boys just fooling around on and off camera. I had seen them in all their Toronto shows before, but never too up close.
They were exactly like everyone describes them – Completely normal guys just being ridiculous. My friend and I kept freaking out. The winners were told to go back to the theatre for a little bit, and we reluctantly left the boys. About 15 minutes later, Harry and Liam came in to interview some fans. Harry came and sat RIGHT beside me and started talking to me!! It was so incredible, my friends at home told me I looked really calm on the outside but really I was just trying not to start sobbing.
I mean the guy that I’ve loved for so many years is sitting beside me having a normal conversation- and that guy happened to be the incredibly good looking Harry. (GAHHH was all I could really say) After he left I was shaking for what seemed like hours. The fans also had this really cool opportunity to go listen to the album in the studio in a phone booth the crew set up. While me and my best friend were listening to it, Niall actually came over to us and asked how it was, I almost forgot how to talk. The entire day was indescribable.
One Direction mean so much to me, and I just want to thank Much Music and Sony again for everything!! I really hope every fan has an opportunity to meet the boys one day too because even though there were only thirty fans at 1Dday, I know there were millions watching and they all deserve to meet them too.
