The only thing shocking about Timbaland’s Shock Value II, would be if he creates a Shock Value III.
Shock Value II, T.land’s new album conforms to the typical styles and sounds of many other artists currently released, and doesn’t offer that fresh Timbaland experience that I was prepared for. I will be quick to jump the gun, and say that Shock Value II is a sell-out. In all fairness, we shall have to wait and see how Timbo’s new tracks pan-out, as the album was released just two days ago.
According to Interscoperecords.com, Timbaland re-shapes the pop/R&B landscape by tightly meshing the two genres together and crossing all boundaries. Timbaland has always been able to stay ahead of the curve, and having a wide range of pop artists to accompany him, however I am not sure if this will help with the success of Shock Value II.
Timbaland says, “I’m so fortunate and blessed to be able to create a Shock Value II,” Timbaland says. “I’m really proud of the caliber of artists on this album and all the work they put into making it a success. I can promise that no one has ever heard Katy Perry, The Fray, or Brandy sound like this before. It’s exciting because not only am I giving fans the best of me on each track, I’m giving them a glimpse of their favorite artist in a completely different light. This is an album that can be listened to from start to finish every single time because each song is so unique and the range of artists so diverse. I can’t wait for my fans to hear the collaborations.” Prepare yourself to hear collabos with artists such as Nelly Furtado, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, The Fray, Drake, Christ Daughtry, Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, JoJo, OneRepublic, and others.
Quite the mix you’ve got there Timbaaaaland, like a poorly made garden salad, you’ve pulled artists of all different flavaaas and styles into one bland, taste-less album, and let’s not forget the Timbaland house-dressing! – will signature beats and key vocals be enough to keep this album afloat? This album is repetitive, incomplete, and cranks out the same old stuff in a different package. As unhappy as I am with SVII, these songs are all as tailor made for radio, as a ready-to-wear clothing is to put on, and will probably get quite a bit of air-time.
Jet, JoJo, and OneRepublic might be able to save this album, with songs like “Timothy Where You Been” featuring Jet and JoJo, a song which draws lyrical parallels to Timbaland’s absence from the music scene. Or “Marching On” (Timbaland mix) featuring OneRepulic.
I wish I was wrong, but listening to song after song off of Shock Value II, I am thoroughly disappointed. The generic sound, reminds me that I’ve had just about enough wilted lettuce, thank you….
Verdict: This album definitely “shocked” me, and not in a good way.
