Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2013

January 2nd, 2013

The next twelve months are shaping up to be some of the biggest we`ve seen at the box office. From trilogies to superheroes, famous books to, of course, zombies, we`ve got our popcorn ready for 2013. Check out what titles made our list for the Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2013.

Click here to see all the amazing specials, blogs, galleries, countdowns and more that are part of this year’s Holiday Wrap.

10. The Host

Written by Twilight author Stephanie Meyer, The Host stars Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, Boyd Holbrook, Max Irons and William Hurt and tells the story of a time when humans are quickly becoming extinct and their bodies taken over by a host life form. When Saoirse Ronan’s human character Melanie is implanted with a Host, her human memories fight through, bringing her back to the humans she left behind.

Not a Twilight fan? Not a problem. Other than sharing the same author and a love triangle, The Host is an exciting science fiction novel for young adults.

9. Warm Bodies – February 1, 2013

Nicholas Hoult stars as R, a zombie who finds that his human-qualities begin to return when he falls in love with the warm bodied and very much alive Julie, played by Teresa Palmer. Think Shawn of the Dead meets Romeo and Juliet.

8. The Great Gatsby – May 10, 2013

Director and writer Baz Luhrmann returns to the big screen with a film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald`s American classic, The Great Gatsby. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, the film brings the famous love triangle to the big screen and acts and Luhrmann`s first feature film since 2008`s Australia.

The Great Gatsby will see Luhrmann team up once again with his Romeo + Juliet leading man, Leonardo Dicaprio, who will play the title role of Jay Gatsby.

7. Oz: The Great And Powerful – March 8, 2013

Disney`s Oz The Great and Powerful tells the story of how Kansas circus performer Oscar Diggs came to be the Wizard of Oz and save his beloved city. Paying homage to 1939`s The Wizard of Oz, the film’s scenes taking place in Kansas appear in black and white, while the Land of Oz is experienced by viewers in vibrant colour.

Starring Mila Kunis as Theordora, Rachel Weisz as Eleanor, Michelle Williams as Glinda the Good Witch and James Franco as Oz, the film is set to be released on March 8, 2013.

6. Man of Steel – June 14, 2013

Starring Henry Cavill as Superman, Man of Steel takes a dramatic look at the life of one of comic`s most beloved superheroes. With Christopher Nolan behind the scenes as Producer and a stellar cast, Man of Steel could be a film that rivals the success of the Dark Knight trilogy.

5. Elysium – August 9, 2013

Few details are known about Neill Blomkamp`s follow up to District 9, but the handful of images that have surfaced online show a version of Matt Damon that would make even Jason Bourne nervous.

4. World War Z – June 21, 2013

Max Brook`s 2006 book on the history of the zombie war is brought to life with Brad Pitt at the centre of story, playing a UN worker searching for the cure to the zombie outbreak. With a trailer that looks truly terrifying, World War Z is sure to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2013.

3. One Direction 3D Concert Movie – August 30, 2013

Capitalizing on their worldwide domination of the charts, One Direction are set to hit the big screen in 3D his summer. While the success of films like Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and Katy Perry: Part of Me have set the boy band up for some big numbers of the box office, it`s their choice of documentary maker Morgan Spurlock that can take the film from another concert movie to a respectable documentary.

2. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – November 22, 2013

After the huge success of the first Hunger Games film, fans are clamoring for the second installment, which will see Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson revive their roles as Katniss, Gale and Peeta. With an even darker storyline than the first film (yes, darker than children fighting to the death), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has some big, dramatic expectations to meet.

1. Iron Man 3 – May 3, 2013

Tony Stark faces his biggest enemy yet with The Mandarin. Stopping at nothing to take down Stark and his loved ones, Iron Man 3 will either show the end of a Marvel hero or his greatest triumph.
