I love zombie movies. Zombies are cooler than vampires, werewolves and ninjas combined. So, tonight I went to see the latest zombie movie 28 Weeks Later- the sequel to the zombie-rific 28 Days Later. The movie had a healthy population of the undead, some very intense scenes and they turned the gore factor up to 11. It was well qualified to satisfy my love for zombies, but as good as the original? No. Is this a fair gauge though? Can any zombie flick beat 28 Days Later? Here’s a countdown of the top 5 zombie flicks as decided by me — ’cause I’m the one writing this post.

#5 Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Classic remake of a zombie showdown in a mall. Zombies are naturally attracted to shopping malls, so whenever there’s an outbreak, this is a likely scenario. Canadian Sarah Polley stars in it, so that’s a plus, but the best part of the movie is pecking off zombies based on which celebrities they look like from the rooftops. Hilarious!

#4 Resident Evil (2002)
This zombie flick gets a lot of flack from the critics. But it clearly has the BEST zombie dog ever in film. Plus, the best soundtrack in a zombie movie (thanks to Marilyn Manson). This also has the most sexual eye candy of any zombie film.

#3 Army of Darkness (1992)
If you don’t like Ash trapped in the past killing zombies, then Bruce Campbell is on his way to your home right now to get you… with his boomstick.

#2 Shaun of the Dead (2004)
This movie really messes with your brain. You start of laughing hilariously and end up sniffin’ back the tears. It’s one of the few zombie movies that make you think it may not be that cool to kill your friend who just turned into a zombie. This feeling will pass if you watch Army of Darkness again right after it.

#1 28 Days Later (2002)
You wake up from a coma and your city seems completely abandoned. You finally find some people and they’re undead. This scenario would suck so much to be in that it rocks! Plus that scene in the church where Jim yells “Hello!” and the first zombie pops his head up is truly one of the creepiest scenes in a movie. Nope- no other zombie movie can beat 28 Days Later. It’s simply the pinnacle of the zombie entertainment industry.
