As 2009 comes to a close, MuchMusic is rounding up all the major moments of the year in a one-hour special – MuchNews: Top Shockers ’09.
Fans and celebrities alike were shocked to learn that DJ AM was found dead in his New York apartment on August 28th.
Born Adam Goldstein, the DJ’s body was found by police who busted down the door after friends hadn’t heard from him for several days.
And even more tragic, Goldstein had died of an accidental drug overdose. He had been sober for 11 years.
AM’s latest project was an MTV reality show where he provided interventions for young people dealing with drug dependency. The DJ was reportedly taking anti-anxiety medication as a result of his fear of flying.
Goldstein and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker were the only two survivors of a private jet crash in September of 2008. At the time, they both sustained severe burns.
Travis Barker was amongst the guests at AM’s private burial held in Los Angeles. He was seen comforting the dj’s girlfriend Hayley Woods at the service.
Blink -182 cancelled several shows after Goldstein’s death so Barker could grieve.
The drummer tweeted about his friend’s death before the show, saying “everytime I play the drums I’ll think of you.”
