Travis Barker Hearts Hip-Hop

November 2nd, 2010

Travis Barker is probably best known for his pop punk drumming skills in Blink-182 but the rocker is trying out a cross over. Popping up on our playlist today is “Jump Down” by Travis featuring rap group The Cool Kids. The song isn’t Travis’ first attempt to make his mark in hip-hop. He actually has a long love affair with the genre. Check out our Travis Barker hip-hop timeline after the jump.

October 2002: Travis Barker tells MTV News, “I probably listen to more hip-hop and drum’n'bass than I do punk rock music.”

October 2005: Travis Barker appears on Bun B’s album Trill on the bonus track “Late Night Creepin’” with Skinhead Rob

2005: Travis Barker forms a hip-hop group called Expensive Taste with Paul Wall and Skinhead Rob.

September 2007: Travis Barker posts a video of himself drumming along to Soulja Boy Tell Em’s “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”

August 2008: Rapper Game says, “He’s the dopest drummer alive. He does it so effortlessly. Travis is addicted to it. He loves good music but just happens to be a punk rocker.”

August 2008: Travis tells the LA Times, “”With hip-hop, you can make a song in a day. To make beats, for me, is really natural. So that’s what I naturally migrated towards.”

Septmeber 2008: Travis was the drummer for every performer at the MTV VMAs including Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco and LL Cool J.

December 2008: Paul Wall said of Travis Barker, “He makes some real dope hip-hop tracks. His hip-hop production is off the (hook). He’s just incredible. It’s just a lot of fun to work with him.”

February 2010: Lil Wayne’s album was released with the song “One Way Trip” where he raps, “and T. Barker is my muthaf—kin’ drummer.”

Early 2000s to present: Travis Barker has remixed and appeared on dozens of songs including “Umbrella” by Rihanna, “Low” by Flo Rida and “Don’t Touch Me (Throw Da Water on ‘Em)” by Busta Rhymes.

Travis Barker’s solo album will be released sometime this year featuring Ludacris, Eminem, Drake, T.I., Snoop Dogg, Yelawolf, The Cool Kids, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Beanie Sigel, Lupe Fiasco, Pharrell Williams, Redman, Clipse, Game, Paul Wall, Rick Ross, RZA, Swizz Beatz, Bun B, Rihanna, B.o.B. and Lil Wayne.
