Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I spent it checking out a food truck festival and also taking in the sights and sounds at Nuit Blanche – the annual all-night art festival in Toronto. The rest of the time I was curled up on my couch in my hoodie and sweatpants (totally acceptable outfits for home!) watching movies and TV, including our latest episode of #trending! Did you watch it? What did you think?
Our favourite segment this week was our story filmed at the 7 For All Mankind launch party in Toronto. The jean company opened up a new store and decided to throw a huge party to celebrate – and to support a good cause. All the guests who attended the event (and we spotted everyone from Degrassi cast members to Candy Coated Killahz to Danny Fernandes!) were invited to bid on specially designed art pieces made out of 7 For All Mankind jeans. The proceeds went to support The African Future – an organization working to help those affected by the drought and famine in Somalia.
It was a thrill to meet supermodel Yasmin Warsame at the event (we loved her on Canada’s Next Top Model!) Yasmin is from Somalia herself, and started The African Future as a way to give back to her home country. As she told us in the interview, people always associate fashion people with superficial things like clothing and makeup. She wanted to show a different side to the industry: one that cares about others and cares about the world.
At the end of the night, everyone at the 7 For All Mankind party left with a fun gift bag, but I also feel like we left with a new appreciation for what we have in Canada, and a better understanding of how we can give back to those in need. It felt good to be around fashion people who weren’t just obsessed with themselves, but also interested in helping others. Charity is one thing that never goes out of style.
Thanks for tuning in! Talk to you soon!
