Happy Monday! Is it just me or did this weekend feel way too short? I had to try and cram so many things into two days! (Basically a family dinner, two birthday parties and furniture shopping for my new apartment). Fortunately, I found time to watch our latest episode of #trending, featuring our special guest Demi Lovato! Did you watch the show?!
Everyone on the #trending team was super excited to meet Demi when she came into our studios the other week. We definitely look up to her as a role model for being honest about her issues and not being afraid to talk about them. And I love that she’s been able to bounce back from her difficulties and use her experiences to inspire others. Also, I bought her new album the day it came out and it’s been on repeat on my iPod ever since! (Favourite songs: Unbroken, Skyscraper (duh!) and Together – Demi’s duet with Jason Derulo).
After weeks of eager anticipation, the day finally came for us to interview Demi. Even though she had already sat through a long day of interviews, she was super friendly and really gracious when it was our turn to chat. We knew we wanted to talk about her album and tour (ps: please come to Canada Demi!!), but we weren’t sure if she wouldtalk about her breakdown. After all, it’s still a pretty sensitive subject.
But Demi knew her story would help others going through the same thing, and she bravely shared her struggles and how she finally decided to ask for help. The coolest part of the interview was hearing Demi talk about her best friend Selena Gomez; how Selena was one of the people who stuck by her the entire time. I always read about the two of them being friends, but it was cool to hear Demi actually talk about their friendship and how much it meant to her.
At the end of our time together, Demi wanted to deliver a message to her fans: no matter what issues you’re dealing with or how bad they may seem, it’s never too late to ask for help! There will ALWAYS be someone there to listen to you, to respect you and to catch you when you fall. And once you’re able to find the help you need, you’ll be rising up – yes, like a Skyscraper – in no time at all. And you’ll realize you are stronger and smarter and better than you ever thought possible.
Demi has shown us that it’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you learn and grow from them. And in our books, that’s the trendiest thing of all!
Thanks for tuning in! Talk to you soon!
