Happy Monday! Who watched #trending this week? We had so much fun putting it together, especially hanging out backstage at Toronto Fashion Week with designer Sid Neigum. We’ve been to a couple of fashion shows before, but we’ve always sat in the runway room. Experiencing a show backstage is a whole other story! There were models running to get to their place in line, hair and makeup people doing last-minute touch-ups and show runners yelling out directions and reminders: Walk slower! Take longer strides! Make sure you pose at the end of the runway!
Through it all, Sid was cool as a cucumber. Even though he had to make a few last-minute adjustments to the clothing (which you saw in the segment) and even though one model didn’t show up on time (which you didn’t see in the segment!), he kept it together and really seemed to have everything under control. While some designers would freak out or want to micro-manage the entire show, I could tell Sid really trusted his team to pull it off. In fact, as the show progressed I noticed Sid tucking himself into a quiet space to watch the models come down the runway in his beautiful clothes; he was allowing himself to just soak it all in.
After the show Sid let out a deep sigh of relief. “That was insanity!” he said. Still, he was excited Canada finally got a chance to see his talent. (And if you read all the reviews that came in afterward, it seems a lot of fashion critics noticed his talent too!) For a kid from Drayton Valley, Alberta, this was definitely a big deal! Now, Sid’s in New York studying fashion and working on his next collection. We love how he’s able to mix his small-town upbringing with big city influences to create a unique, modern collection for guys and gals. He’s definitely a designer to keep an eye on and you know what? When he eventually blows up and takes over the fashion world (like we know he will), you’ll be able to say that you heard about him before anyone else…on #trending!
Thanks for tuning in! Talk to you soon!
