I’ve gotta hand it to Elena – she’ll risk her own life, a mourning vampire’s life and a depressed human’s life to save her boyfriend-turned-mass-murderer lover. Now that’s dedication.

Elena Gilbert / Damon Salvatore / Alaric Saltzman / Stefan Salvatore / Klaus the Original / Ray Sutton

Elena recruits Alaric for a trip with a tip-off from Tyler. But Alaric tips off Damon, and Elena ends up in the water.

Elena’s brilliant plan was to go looking for Stefan (who’s killing up a storm, BTW) who’s being guarded by Klaus (who’s also killing up a storm, BTW) in a place with known werewolves on a full moon (where they’ll be free to run wild and hunt and kill up a storm, BTW).

So I was totally on board when Damon threw Elena in the lake to knock some sense into her. I know she loves Stefan and love makes you do crazy things (and Stefan’s late night phone call didn’t help matters) but this was just nutso!

Damon, being the bestest vampire in the world, agrees to hunt with them during the day but leave before nightfall. And we all know when they explain a plan that early in an episode: that’s soooooo not how it’s gonna go down.

If I had a quarter everytime I was right…I’d have 50 cents right now.

Klaus is on his quest to create his uber-race. But his hybrids are going rabid and dying. Like Ray. He goes mad with his own power (cause he can’t control it) and attacks Elena, Alaric and Damon. Damon becomes the bait so the others can get away…but just as he’s about to die, Stefan jumps in for the rescue.

Guess Elena was right – there is a part of Stefan worth saving. After all is said and done, Stefan’s still there to protect his brother, through and through. Except now Stefan has a wolf-bite.

And here’s where we see a new side to Klaus. Klaus offers to cure Stefan of his wolf-bite if Stefan brings back Ray. But Stefan kills Ray because Ray tried to kill Damon. Klaus should be furious….but instead, he cures Stefan anyways and tells him (well, with guy words, so indirectly tells him) he’s his only friend.

Cue the guy tears.

Jeremy Gilbert / Matt Donovan / Vicki Donovan / Anna the vampire

The ghosts are still haunting Jeremy, and now we’ve got a message. Vicki needs Jeremy to save her. From what? We don’t know. Is Vicki even trustworthy? Not according to the other ghost Anna. She warns Jeremy Vicki can’t be trusted. Dilemma, dilemma, dilemma.

Is this all in Jeremy’s head as a result of Bonnie’s spell? No, it’s not. Matt, who was all on board to contact the spirit world with Jeremy…backed out at the last second cause let’s be honest contacting your dead sister from beyond the grave is just a little terrifying. But Vicki does send Matt a message too – she lifts up a picture of the two of them from the past so Matt knows she’s there.

Freeeeeaky!

Caroline Forbes / Tyler Lockwood / Carol Lockwood / Bill Forbes

After Caroline left in the middle of the night like a prostitute (Carol’s words, not mine) she decides she’s going to spike Tyler’s drinks with vervain to keep them separate. Instead, Tyler realizes his mother knows more than she’s letting on…and decides to let mommy dearest in on his own little secret.

Tyler makes his mother watch his transformation. And wow…what a scene. From Tyler’s looks of guilt, pain, and a “this is what I am” expression to his mother’s “OMG, this is not happening” to “I still love you” expressions….DAYUUUUUM!

THIS WAS TERRIFYING, EMOTIONAL, SATISFYING…BASICALLY ALL THE THINGS THAT MAKE TVD AWESOME IN A NUTSHELL!

But it’s too late to save Caroline. Before Mrs. Lockwood saw the light, she called up an old vampire hunting buddy of hers…who turns out to be Caroline’s father, Bill!!

Who saw that coming? Not me!

So now he’s going to torture the be-jezzus out of her (is it me or does Caroline always get the torture scenes?) as he tries to make his daughter right.

MAGIC MOMENT

The magic moment of the night? Damon telling Elena to remember all the things she’s feeling about Damon once they get Stefan back.

WHOA. I can’t even describe this scene – just watch it online again. It was SO GOOD!! SO GOOD!

Close second – how sweet was it when Elena gave Alaric her ring? And told her he’s not lost and to come home. Awww…….

And you know what? We’ve got a close third. How cool was it to see Matt offer his help to Tyler, the man who stole his girlfriend from him. Matt’s just so damn cool!
