TVD Episode 3: Stefan’s Not A Virgin!?!

Oh Damon, only you can make us smile after watching Caroline’s ruthless torture at the hands of her father, Stefan’s vicious blood games in the ’20s and Elena’s pain-filled rejection when she finally comes face-to-face with the man she’s determined to save.

If it weren’t for you Damon, The Vampire Diaries might be a really dark show….

Elena Gilbert / Damon Salvatore

Elena can’t give up on Stefan if she tried and now neither can Damon. Yeah, Stefan offed Andie in the premiere, but then he called Elena and saved Damon’s life afterwards…so there’s something worth saving.

You know who else thinks so? Katherine! She tips off the pair Stefan and Klaus are in Chicago touring Stefan’s old haunts.

They check it out and learn A) a very powerful witch from the 1920s is still alive and B) Stefan’s apartment is still in tact AND he kept a log of all of his victims his is liquer hideout (it was prohibition, peeps).

Another clue Stefan is worth saving? He covers for Elena when Klaus comes to the apartment and almost finds her. See, there’s a good reason Stefan’s telling Elena to leave him alone.

On the flipside, it’s pretty messed noticing there’s still something human about your boyfriend covering for you while you’re hiding in his murder cupboard.

Damon later distracts Klaus so Elena can make her “I’ll-Save-You” pitch to Stefan…only to find out he doesn’t want to come home. Elena’s the only reason Klaus’ uber-race isn’t forming, and Stefan plans on dragging out that mystery for as long as possible. He tells her off and to go home.

It’s sweet…but extremely dark and hurtful too.

Originals Klaus & Rebecca / Stefan Salvatore

So what exactly does Klaus want with Stefan in Chicago? Apparently they were BFFs. WTF? I know!!! AND Stefan was macking on his sister Rebecca (so he knew TWO original vampires!!).

Klaus finally reveals why he wanted Stefan to come along with him: back in the day Stefan volunteered his cold-hearted killer ways as Klaus’ right hand man. Add to that a sadistic romance with Rebecca and you’ve got yourself a threesome made in vampire heaven.

But Klaus had to mind-wipe Stefan when a mysterious hunter landed on on the Originals’ trail. Rebecca couldn’t handle that…so Klaus stabbed her with one of those Original-killing-daggers and Rebecca goes MIA for the rest of the century.

But now Klaus reawakened Stefan’s love for Rebecca and their voluntary murderous threesome pact. On with the uber-race then?

But wait, Klaus also came to Chicago for Gloria, the powerful witch from Stefan’s favourite speak-easy. If someone can find out why Klaus can’t create more hybrids, it’s her.

Gloria says all she has to do is contact the witch who created the spell…which means she needs something from Rebecca: her necklace. Only Stefan, back in 1920 in his mind-wiped state, picked up the necklace….and gave it to Elena 90 years later filled with vervain!

Tyler Lockwood / Liz, Bill & Caroline Forbes

The other, quite possibly darker, storyline this episode was between Caroline and her father. Bill Forbes, who Caroline who always loved more than her mother, is actually a vampire hunter (like the rest of the founding families).

Once he found out his daughter was a vamp, he decided to “cure” her. And by “cure” he means chaining her up and repeatedly burning her until he tortured the “vampire” out of her.

Thank God mommy-dearest came to the rescue. Tyler is suspicious when Caroline goes MIA and asks her mother for help after he found out his own mother tipped off Bill Forbes. Literally guns blazing, they swoop in and rescue Caroline.

She’s hurt, scarred, depressed and cries into Tyler’s arms. Didn’t I say this was a dark show?

Katherine Pierce

On top of tipping off Damon about Stefan’s whereabouts, Katherine is still in the picture. She’s tracking Stefan, and was apparently stalking him back in the 1920s too (or was it Klaus?). We’re not sure who’s trail she’s on, but she’s definitely after one of them and she’s not letting them out of her sight.
